From Peter Loveridge, author of Cruising Guide to Nova Scotia:
Hi Capt. Murph,
I was reading your blog and you noted the boat on Little Hope Island. I can tell you what happened there. it was being delivered from West Pubnico to Tancook Island and the crew fell asleep. It ran high and dry on the island. it has proven to be more durable than the lighthouse, which was there from the early 20th century. Hurricane Juan damaged its underpinnings, then a fierce northeaster 2 weeks later finished it off and it fell down. Some of my friends from Queens county (Liverpool, NS) had older relatives that lived on this rock. In the early 20th century, it wasn’t so much of a rock, had a few fields and big enough to grow potatoes and keep a few cows. The boat itself is likely to be there for a while, though I suspect everything of value has been “salvaged”.
Best wishes and safe trip,
Peter
