Sailing Experience

2011:  Cruised Kelly IV, an Endeavour 32, for over 2500 miles from Erie, PA.  Kelly IV sailed Lake Erie to Port Colborne, ON, through the Welland Canal, across the length of Lake Ontario to Kingston, down the entire St. Lawrence River and the 7 locks of the Seaway, up the Saguenay River from Tadoussac to Baie Eternite' and back to Tadoussac.  Continued sailing around the Gaspe' Peninsula, and south to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton Island, the Bras d'Or Lakes, and Nova Scotia's Atlantic Coast.  Kelly IV continued sailing Nova Scotia's southwestern shore, around Cape Sable, across the Bay of Fundy, then southwest along the Maine Coast.  CaptMurph sailed solo almost 1400 miles from Toronto to Kingston, Ontario and from Riviere au Renard, Quebec to Portland, Maine.  Trip included 4 overnight sails, one of which was solo.  Kelly IV is currently berthed in Chesapeak Bay, Annapolis, Maryland.

2007- 2010:  Cruised Kelly IV, an Endeavour 32, in western Lake Erie.  Included sails from Sandusky Bay, OH to Cedar Point, Put-in-Bay, Kelleys Island, Middle Bass Island, Huron, Vermilion, OH.  Also several sailing trips to Ontario, Canada, including Amherstburg, Leamington and Pelee Island.  Solo trips of 66nm, 44nm and 42nm.

2003 – 2007:  Cruised Kelly III, a Catalina 27, tall rig sloop. In eastern Lake Erie.  Included sails from Erie, PA to Barcelona, Dunkirk, and Buffalo, NY, Port Dover, Port Maitland, and Port Colborne, Ontario, and Conneaut, OH.

2002:  Delivery Crew from Oyster Bay, LI, NY to St. George's, Bermuda, on Gil Katz's Freedom, a cutter rigged Tayana 52. Stood watch.  Piloted "Freedom" through channel into St. George's.  705nm total.

2002:  Bareboat charter of Catalina 34, Gore Bay, Ontario, Lake Huron's North Channel.
2000:  Bareboat charter of 38 ft Beneteau sloop in the British Virgin Islands.
1999:  Bareboat charter of 36 ft Beneteau sloop in Australia's Whitsunday Islands.  
1997:  Bareboat charter of 32 ft, full keel sloop, a Watkins 32, in Florida Keys.  

1992-1999:  Cruised Kelly, a Catalina 25 sloop, Erie, Pa.  Included sails across Lake Erie to Port Dover, Canada.  Trailered Kelly to sail in the North Channel, Lake Huron.

1977-81:  Crew & race 470s with Moraine Sailing Club, Lake Arthur, north of Pittsburgh, PA.
1973-76:  Crew & race Flying Juniors on Wabash College sailing team, Crawfordsville, IN.
1966-72:  Sailed Sunfish, Snipe, & Sunflower.  Earned Sailing Merit Badge from Boy Scouts of America.  Earned Eagle Scout.

Sailing Certifications

2011:  US Coast Guard Licensed Master of Steam, Motor or Auxiliary Sail Vessels of Not More Than 50 Gross Registered Tons Upon Great Lakes and Inland Waters.
2011:  Presented Seminar at the Cleveland Mid-America Boat Show:  "Lake Erie Destinations"
2010:  Certified by the American Red Cross in CPR/AED and Standard First Aid.
2010:  Certificates from the Annapolis School of Seamanship for successfully completing their courses for Master 100 Tons and Sail Auxiliary

1999 - 2012:  Owner of Kelly II,  a Hunter 170 centerboard sloop, Lake Arthur, north of Pittsburgh, PA.
1992 – 1999:  Owner of Kelly, a Catalina 25 swing keel sloop, Erie, PA.
1979 - now:  Owner of a Snark Sunflower, an 11 foot OAL, lateen rigged sailing dinghy.
